You don't need an app or a browser extension to save a Facebook video on a computer. VidYoink works in any up-to-date browser on Windows, Mac and Chromebook, and the video goes to your Downloads folder as an MP4 file.
Please only save videos you posted yourself or that the creator has given you permission to keep. VidYoink works with public posts only.
Step 1: Copy the video's link on facebook.com
Every Facebook video has its own address. When a video plays in your feed, open it on its own page first, so you copy the video's link and not the feed's.
- Click the video, or the date under the poster's name, to open the post on its own page.
- Copy the address from your browser's address bar. You can also click Share under the video, then Copy link.
- Watch links, reel links and fb.watch links all work.
Step 2: Paste it into VidYoink
Open vidyoink.com in a new tab. The lookup starts as soon as you paste.
- Click the link box.
- Press Ctrl+V on Windows or Chromebook, or Cmd+V on a Mac. You can also click Paste; if the browser asks to see your clipboard, please allow it.
- After a moment the results card appears under the box.
Step 3: Choose HD or SD
HD is sharper and larger; SD is smaller. Each button shows the resolution and file size when Facebook provides them.
- Click the quality you want. The button fills as the video downloads.
- If your browser asks whether to allow downloads from vidyoink.com, please allow them.
Step 4: Find the video
The video is saved to your Downloads folder, named VidYoink- followed by the post title.
- Windows: open File Explorer and click Downloads.
- Mac: open Finder and click Downloads.
- Chromebook: open the Files app and click Downloads.
- Or open your browser's list of downloads: Ctrl+J in Chrome and Edge on Windows and Chromebook, Cmd+Shift+J in Chrome on a Mac, Cmd+Option+L in Safari, Ctrl+Shift+Y in Firefox (Cmd+Shift+Y on a Mac).
Saving several videos
VidYoink keeps the next lookup one click away, so saving a series of clips is quick.
- After a video saves, click Download another video on the results card. The link box empties, ready for the next link.
- Copy the next video's link on facebook.com and paste it the same way.
- Long HD videos can be tens of megabytes. On a slow connection, SD saves sooner.
If the video opens in a player instead
Please use your browser's download or save option. In most browsers you can right-click the video and choose Save video as.
Quick questions
Do I need a browser extension?
No. VidYoink works in your browser as it is, with no extension or program.
Which player opens the file?
It's a standard MP4 file. The built-in players on Windows and Mac play it, and so do VLC and most browsers.
Does it work for videos I can only see when logged in?
No. VidYoink only looks up public videos that anyone can watch without logging in.
Why does the file name start with VidYoink?
It makes the video easy to spot in Downloads. You can rename the file like any other.
